Role*
Architectural Design, Sport Consulting
Cannon Design was involved as a specialty sport consultant in several aspects of the development of the Olympic Oval for the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics. The firm prepared a revised functional program as well as a review of the operational model for the 195,000 sf oval. In addition, Cannon worked as a member of the design team to develop a highly functional sport facility, including providing assistance in developing planning schemes, concept and schematic drawings, functional relationships, vertical separation of user groups, access/egress concerns, and the establishment of criteria for mechanical and electrical building systems.
Cannon Design’s engagement also included the design and specification of all sports fittings and equipment including: seating systems, locker and change room areas, rink board systems, and skate sharpening equipment.
During construction, Cannon Design also provided on-site field services, during the critical aspect of the installation of the sport specialty fixtures and equipment, in particular the refrigerated slab.
